Yupp! As of 0500 hours this morning, my university applications for both NUS and NTU have come to completion! After submission of my application for both universities and the payment for the application recently, I was left with the submission of supporting documents only. I just finished with the submission of the supporting documents, which are really referral letters from my teachers, this morning.
So why did I submit my application so late in the night ( or early in the morning you can say...)? Well, I only started work on the 'discretionary' application, as it is called, late in the night at around 1.00am thinking that it would be a simple job of filling in some details as usual and simply attaching the referral letters from the teachers to the submission. Little did I know that an essay had to be accompanied with the discretionary application lols! So I had finished filling up all the other details required when the essay portion popped up at the last section. At that point in time, I seriously had thoughts of giving up the discretionary application altogether. I was just sooo tired. It was 1.00am in the night mind! I was already all relaxed and ready to go to sleep. Now I still had to rack my brains to come up with a random essay and it had to have quality?!!
It was then that I thought of the effort my teachers had put in to rush these referral letteres for me that I decided to just do my best for this last bit of the whole application process. I thus decided to rush something out with whatever brain cells that were still awake. So I got the two essays done, which I thought were pretty okay though I'm sure it is still quite lacking for the universities' standards. The length wasn't even very long lols. I had heard that these essays for university applications should be of about 1000 words? Lolz... I was too tired to consider so much lol. I could only think of sleep. So I just got it done and went to bed. Leave the decision making to the guys from NUS and NTU who will be looking through these stuff.
Well, all in all, I'm just glad this long journey of getting information from teachers, getting help from family and the school and filling up forms and attending open houses has come to an end for now. Univeristy applications are DONE!!
Thus, I only went to sleep after 5.00am after I was done and only had slightly more than an hour of sleep. Yawnzz....! It has been one long process.
When the letter N and the letter S come together, it's a whole new world out there

Talk and dinner with some mates
While doing our On Job Training, me and my friends got to know a guy, Jensen, who invited us to attend a talk. Therefore, we met at Bras Basah at 3pm as agreed.
As I didn't enquire much about the talk, I thus didn't read up about it beforehand. It was only when I arrived at the venue that I got to know the talk was about some sort of home- based business called WorldVentures where one gets to earn quick money simply by travelling overseas on holidays and getting their friends to sign up for it. Well, it does sound like an interesting concept to me but I found it quite dubious as I could not see what was in it for whoever came up with such a business concept. Therefore, I decided to read up a little more about it before considering putting my name down.
We didn't stay long after the talk ended as the few of us didn't intend to sign up for it. We then decided to have chicken rice for dinner at an eatery nearby. What with being busy with NS all this while, I sure have not been eating out for quite some time. Moreover, I hadn't eaten chicken rice in a long time.
It sure was a good meal.

NUS open house
Went for yet another Uni open house just yesterday. The last one. I went to NUS this time and I sure did make sure I arranged to meet up with everyone who had said they wanted to attend this open house with me. Well, just two guys actually.
So I met up with HX and A early in the morning at 10am at Kent Ridge MRT before taking a shuttle bus over to NUS open house. Just like the other open houses, there were lots of people of course. It was also extremely noisy hahas. Anyways, we were really focused on what we wanted to query about having been to so many open houses already before this so we just broke off and visited only those booths we had an interest in. I of course went to the Environmental Science booth and queried about the environmental course in NUS. By the end of my talk with the attendant of the booth, I could tell that the course aimed to have its students be diversified and have various differetn skills taught to the students. Apparently, the selection was also done partly by interviews. I sure am hoping to at least be eligible for the interviews hahas.
I also went around to look at several other booths such as Music or the Chinese Studies. Other than the Music course which has its selection based on auditions, the rest of the courses looked really competitive and I seem to have a really slim chance of getting a place here. Furthermore, the FASS is also really competitive and to take any one course from there, you'd have to select one course from each of the three categories listed there. Thus, that seems tough too, Currently, I'm not considering taking up any courses from FASS for now. Rather, I do not even have much chance of competing with others for a place in that course. Hahas.
As before, I met a couple of friends there at NUS open house too. Hahaha... some of whom I had problem recalling who they were though their faces looked really familiar. Ir was really quite and odd feeling to see a familiar face but not know who that person is.
Back to the open house. After the visit to NUS open house, I certainly do feel that I might have better chances at NTU as compared to NUS as the requirements for most courses in NUS are really demanding. Still, I'll apply for courses from both universities accordingly and see what comes out.

Life is Good!
It has only been a day since hanging out with friends at Uni open houses and yet I've already started planning and booking meet ups with friends for the next weekend. Wow... the Uni open houses have certainly helped me in getting to hang out with more mates huh? Still, it isn't only by going to open houses that I've been meeting friends. I've just settled a dinner meet up with some NS mates for next Saturday. Life sure is good man! End of the week and I'm already booked for the next weekend. I'm gonna do this every weekend yo! Hahaha...

A sparkle of light at the end of a long dark tunnel
Hi once again! This time I'll be writing about my trip to two Uni open houses today. Both SIM Global Education and NTU had their open houses today and I had already made plans with some friends to go visit the open houses. Thus, I dragged myself out of bed early this morning at around 8am to get ready to go out, I was still really tired though seeing as I slept really late again, at around 2am, last night. Still, I had to be at Clementi MRT by 10 am so it really is high time that I get out of bed.
Upon getting to SIM with an NS friend of mine, D, I wasted no time in getting to the venue of the open house and started browsing through the various courses there were available. Hahas, why the rush you may ask. I was trying to get everything done here asap as I had to visit NTU open house right after this. I didn't want to arrive too late for the NTU open house of course.
Okay, back to SIM. It was only until we started chatting with some of the attendants around that I realised that this open house was slightly different from the one I just visited some time back. Oh,,, SIM consisted of two entities. This was the open house for SIM Global Education while the previous one was for UniSIM, the local Uni. Thus, I did take some time to browse to through the courses that were offered by the various overseas universities which were partnering SIM. However, there weren't many courses to my interest and since both me and my friend were not really interested in overseas education, we thus decided to make enquiries on the local UniSIM instead.
After the enquiries, I certainly got a much better idea of the courses offered by UniSIM. Apparently, the places will not be reserved for us so we can only apply some time next year. I asked pretty much the same questions as before and got the same answers as before. However, I did notice one thing about the courses this time though, I realised that the courses were structured in such a way that it made attending the courses really flexible. That really caught my attention. We left soon after that as the courses there didn't really interest me anyways.
We got to Clementi Mall and had a quick lunch before I headed off to meet up with a JC classmate, CK, at Pioneer. We had a bit of a problem finding our way around NTU but we did manage to get to the area where the booths were situated after some asking around.
Oh boy! There were so many China students there. Wow... it just suddenly dawned on me that competition is really though. Hahas, I'd still like to make it to study here though, I really liked the Chinese speaking envrionment hahas. It was to the point that most of the attendants that were tending the booths were well versed in using Chinese to explain what the various courses were. I found that really interesting lol. Being really hungry for information about the courses here and wanting to get as much information as I could so as to make an informed choice, I thun visited almost every booth and picked out as many brochures as I could get my hands on. Most of the courses seemed really interesting lols. One which really caught my eye was the Earth and Environmental Science course. It was everything I wanted to study and did not really require good grades as it was a new course only starting next year. Thus, the intake was based much on interviews and assessing how interested one was in that subject matter. I saw hope in that. Now I really hope to get into that course.
Another course which I was interested in was also the Chinese Studies course. I made queries and I was told that the entrance grade was at least CCC for H2 subjects. I enquired further and got to know that I have an advantage having take Chinese in JC and having taken Higher Chinese in Sec sch too. That raised my hopes a little. We even visited the NIE booth as a back up just in case all else fails. At least teaching was a sustainable career too. We got brochures from there too and even from the Arts and Social Science courses for some reading up on those courses.
Throughout the day, I was really elated to bump into some friends while at NTU. These friends ranged from JC school mates to Sec sch classmates. I even saw a good friend of mine from Pri sch just as I was leaving. Wow, what a day! It was so good to see them!
I was high with elation and rejuvenated with hope after the NTU visit. I'm certainly looking forwards to the NUS open house next week!

A levels results!!!
Okay... so this is part 2 of my nerve- wrecking day! After all the attention and some excitement throughout the media interview, I now have to face MY RESULT SLIPP!!!
So I entered the hall with all the other A level graduates to receive our results at 2.00pm. Having not been called up for Most Improved Award, I knew my chances of getting some promising grades were slim. Frankly speaking, my hopes were not too high as I entered the hall. I still tried not to be too pessimistic though. Thus, I focused my attention more on chatting with my friends who were there and mixing around to get my mind off thinking about what I was going to see on the result slip.
After a whole long list of awards were given, it was time to collect our results from our CT. I got my results and this was written on it...
H1 GP: C
H1 Phy: C
H2 Chem: D
H2 Econs: E
H2 Maths: S
Yupp... I failed my H2 Maths. My CT was quite encouraging though. She affirmed that I had indeed done my best and should not feel too bad about my grades. I was really heartened to hear her say that. I had been expecting her to not speak to me lols, just like previous times. She then also told me that she is willing to offer help should I need her assistance later on.
I of course went around to look for some of my teachers to thank them for their guidance throughout these years. Most of them offered encouragement and affirmed that I had done my best of course. Most challenging of all was my Maths teacher who still managed some encouragement though I am sure we both know that I had done worse than my Prelims. This was despite all the help I had received and the effort I had put into my worst subject lols. I spent more time talking to my Economics teacher who once again offered me encouragement and affirmed that I had done my best. She also told me that she was despite these grades, she was still really proud of all the effort I had put in. She also said that she for one does not look at grades and has certainly seen me put much time and effort into studying.
Hahas, when asked how I felt. I could only answer incredulously " History repeats itself."
Well, what else could I say? After all that effort put in to my work, my grades have still failed me! At least, I think my teachers could see that I wasn't taking this too badly seeing as I could still joke about it. Frankly, I don't see the point in being dissapointed about it lolz!

An unexpected media encounter
Today was once again one of those nerve- wracking, worrying days for me. Yupp! It's the day for me to collect my A levels results today. However, that was later in the day at 2pm. Now, it is only 12pm and I was already in PJC. I had been informed to be in school earlier for a media interview by a reporter from 'Today' newspaper.
Due to my studying difficulties, 'Today' newspaper has requested for me to be interviewed for a media coverage for some post A levels reporting hahas!
Upon arrival in school, I met up with the reporter herself with some teachers and was whisked off to the Conference Room. Seeing as this is my first one on one interview, I was nervous and clueless about how to answer questions from the media as these comments will be published in the newspaper. Thankfully, several teachers were accompanying me in the room which helped a little in my confidence level.
So basically, the reporter just asked some really basic questions such as what were some of the problems that I faced while studying, how I overcame them and how I got help in my studies... Well, I answered these questions as best as I could and to the best that I could remember. Of course, I could not give an answer when asked how I did for the A levels as the results were only going to be out later. Hahas! By the end of the interview, I felt I did pretty okay, a view shared by the teachers that were present too. We had a photo taking session after that.
Both my J1 and J2 Class tutors were present for the photo shoot and a photographer from the media took several photos of us from different angles all around the foyer and along some steps. Hahas, this was probably the first time I'm getting my picture taken by a professional photographer. I am definitely getting my hands on those photos when they're out! I also quite liked some of the angles that the photographer took the photos from. There was also a guy from the school's Media Club who also took some photos for us. Hahas, I had some time to interact with him as well.
All in all, I'm really looking forward to seeing the newspaper article and the reporter had said to inform me when it will be published so that I can look out for it hahas! I ended off quite early and had some time to cool off before getting my results after that.
