Hey guys! I'm back to tell you about my weekend once again! This post will be about a very enjoyable and rather interesting day spent in the East. As the Mid Autumn Festival is approaching, I decided to have a small celebration with JL to enjoy some mooncakes on our own before the larger scale mooncake 'sampling' begins this coming weekend. Indeed, one can never have enough mooncakes to eat with there always being too few mooncakes and too many people eating... right? Thus, it is always mooncakes 'sampling' and never 'Mooncakes feasting". Though the latter sure sounds mouth watering, haha! Hmm, you might have guessed by now that I wanted to have this mini celebration just so that I could enjoy a little more mooncakes this year. To my delight, JL went along with my idea as well!
And so, we began brainstorming for venues to have the celebration and finally decided on East Coast Park for a place less mainstream and more interesting. Since we were heading to the East, JL then suggested that we drop by Parkway Parade earlier in the afternoon for some singing at Teo Heng. We could then go over to ECP after that. After a phone call, we were squeezed into a three hour slot around noon as it was almost fully booked for the day.
This was the first time I sang k with JL and it turned out to be really enjoyable. In fact, I didn't even know JL could sing but he was not too bad. He sang mostly Kpop and I just joined in wherever I could, especially when there were chinese songs. We had arrived just before noon and had actually planned to leave around 3 since we only had three hours. However, we were informed that the guy who had the slot after us had cancelled his booking and so we could continue if we wanted to. Seeing as the sun was not about to set anytime soon, we took up the offer of course. We then sang our hearts out for another hour. It had been a long time since I had sung so shiok haha!
We got to East Coast Park just as the sun was setting. Although there were many options along the seemingly endless stretch of ECP for us to drop off our stuff and light our lanterns, (yes, we brought along lanterns too) we decided to hang around familiar areas and more importantly the area near public transport. We sure didn't want to have to waste too much time walking too far off and having to walk back later. Thus, it was at Area C where we decided to find a spot.
We were really lucky, I would say. It was a fair evening and the crowd was thin. It wasn't too difficult to locate a cooling and quiet spot not too far from the beach where there was a table. We took a walk while waiting for the sky to get dark and also bought a lighter as we had forgotten matches. After we got the lighter, the fun began!
I had totally forgotten the one big problem with having a Mid Autumn celebration by the beach. What am I referring to? The sea breeze of course! The sea breeze was strong and relentless. Worse still, the problem couldn't be solved simply by walking further inland away from the sea. It was evening and the breeze was blowing outwards from land to sea so it was literally windy everywhere.
The only solution I had was to keep going further inland until we managed to find something large enough to block out the wind. We found a large rock and lit our lanterns behind it. Once the wind was blocked out, that part was completed really quickly. We then sat with the lanterns around us and enjoyed our mooncakes... yums! The sky got a little cloudy by then with much of the full moon covered up and only half a moon visible.
We finished up the mooncakes and then packed up. With only two of us, there sure was more to eat. We then got back to the bus stop and took a bus home. It sure was a rather interesting day yet again, and not too mainstream, right?
When the letter N and the letter S come together, it's a whole new world out there
